  Is speaking in tongues for Christians today, and what is it?

  the watchtower claims speaking in tongues was restricted to the first century, though it seems quite clear that this was something to be practiced in the last days.

  should christians today speak in tongues and what exactly is it?

  i am wondering about the reasoning as some christian religions practice it and others don't.

  Me and my girlfriend speak in tongues, but only with one another.

  We're monogamous.

  i don't think i am an apostate, but do feel like one for being on these boards as we were always warned not to at the meetings etc.. i disagree with so many things they teach, the main thing is the blood issue....being a new auntie, i love my niece soooo much and if i were the only person that could save her, how on earth could i not?

  i'd be blood guilty for not saving her!!!!!

  that in my books, would be murder.. however, may be it's because i've only been away from the mtgs for a year, but i still think of it most days and although i feel i've made the right decision as nothing was making me happy in it, and obvioulsy my ex beating me and getting away with it.....i still feel a certain pull towards it and a kind of insane loyalty???.

  growing up as a jw in the 70's and 80's we didn't have the influence of the internet.

  i, of course, believed i was in "the truth" and never heard anything (from the outside) that negative about our jw religion.

  of course, now and again, we had some angry people at the door, but other than that i can't recall very many outside negative criticisms.

  The rank and file are scared of losing their lives at Armageddon if they learn the truth about da truf.

  So they choose to keep drinking the WTBTS kool-aid, instead of the pure water that Christ taught in the Bible.

  All it takes is reading comprehension, get out your Bible and read it, man:

  Revelation 20:1-9:

  1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit[a] and a heavy chain in his hand. 2 He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. 3 The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.

  4 Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

  5 This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.) 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.

  The Defeat of Satan

  PS- in case you didn't "get it" the only ones alive during the thousand year reign are those who survive Armageddon, and the resurrected martyrs- everyone else is resurrected after the thousand years. There it is, in black and white, from the Bible.
